Your baby’s life and experiences change when they exit your womb and enter the big wide world, filled with strange noises. It’s common for your newborn baby to battle with sleep time. The solution to a better night’s sleep for you and your baby is a sleep aid – the tricky part is choosing the right one for your baby.

Ewan The Dream Sheep is a soft fleecy sleep aid that plays various sounds and has a pink light. Ollie The Owl allows you to adjust the volume and brightness and keeps the light on for around 30 minutes. It also features a CrySensor that activates the sleep aid when your baby stirs or wakes.

In this article, we’ll unpack what Ewan The Dream Sheep and Ollie The Owl are, what ages your child can use them until, the differences between the two, and the advantages and disadvantages each of the sleep aids have.

What Is Ewan the Dream Sheep?

Ewan The Dream Sheep is a sleep aid for your baby. The night light and various sounds typically work well at lulling your baby to sleep or back to sleep.

Ewan The Dream Sheep has a classic and a new and updated version, called Sweet Dreamers Ewan The Shushing Sheep, which you can find on Amazon. The updated version is, of course, improved.

Moms worldwide prefer Ewan The Shushing Sheep thanks to its SmartCry sensor, the real recordings of shush and heartbeat sounds, and the fact that it’s machine washable because the control pod is removable.

However, in this article, we’ll be discussing the classic version, Ewan The Dream Sheep, which you can find on the Sweet Dreamers website, the company that created this sleep aid.

Ewan The Dream Sheep is soft, cute, and newborns and toddlers love it alike. It has a pink light that looks warm, comforting and calming to your baby because it reminds them of their mother’s womb. It works most effectively if the room is dark.

Both the sounds and light automatically turn off after 20 minutes so that you don’t have to turn it off yourself. However, 20 minutes may not be enough time to get your baby to sleep, so you may have to restart Ewan The Dream Sheep once it turns off.

The sleep aid also offers a range of sounds for your baby to sleep with. Instead of being startled by the noises of the hooting cars outside, your baby can listen to sounds of the:

  • Hoover
  • Womb
  • Rain
  • Harp

You can take Ewan The Dream Sheep wherever you want, thanks to the velcro tail strap. It’s not safe to have toys in the crib with your newborn baby due to the risks of suffocation, but that doesn’t mean this sleep aid can’t be there for your baby. Simply wrap its tail around the rail of your baby’s crib to keep it out of the way but still close enough to be effective to your baby.

You can also take Ewan The Dream Sheep on rides in the car, out on lunch dates, and for walks around the park by strapping him onto the baby car seat’s handle or pram.

The classic version of Ewan The Dream Sheep is battery-powered, but the batteries are not included with the product. It uses x3 AAA non-rechargeable batteries.

What Is Ollie the Owl?

Ollie the Owl is also a sleep aid for babies. It is battery-powered and provides a night light for your little one. The detail on the owl will captivate your baby’s attention and is soft to the touch. Although this product is a sleep aid, it can easily turn into your child’s favorite toy.

Ollie The Owl offers different light and volume settings. You can pick from brightness levels of low, medium, high, or off. The light shines through the owl’s tummy and will stay on for about 30 minutes before automatically turning off. You can locate the light button on Ollie’s right foot.

Ollie The Owl also plays sounds that your baby is familiar with to soothe them to sleep. These sounds are:

  • A heartbeat
  • Brahms Lullaby
  • White noise
  • Rainfall

You can play the sounds by squeezing Ollie’s right wing. The sounds play for 20 minutes before automatically turning off; however, Ollie The Owl takes it a step further with its CrySensor.

Unless you physically deactivate Ollie The Owl’s CrySensor, it will continue to stay on, listening to your baby for the next 3 hours. If your baby stirs, becomes restless, or wakes up, Ollie will start playing white noise or the lullaby sounds for another 20 minutes. This process will continue until your baby sleeps past 3 hours or you deactivate the CrySensor.

Like Ewan the Dream Sheep, Ollie also has a velcro strap, allowing you to secure it onto handles and bars. The strap is ideal for hanging Ollie onto the crib or your baby’s car seat.

You can find Ollie The Owl on Amazon.co.uk or the Tommee Tippee website.

What Age Can Ewan the Dream Sheep Be Used Until?

Ewan The Dream Sheep doesn’t have an age limit; it’s all up to your child. Ewan can be used from birth until your child outgrows it or when Ewan becomes too damaged or worn. However, that doesn’t need to stop you from getting another one.

Although Ewan The Dream Sheep can be used from birth, not all newborns take to it as quickly as some parents may like. With babies, everything takes time and patience – you just have to have perseverance.

If your baby doesn’t take to Ewan at all, keep it in a clean area. Reintroduce Ewan to your baby after a month or so. Often, your baby will be more comfortable in their environment after a while and will take to Ewan much better. Don’t give up on Ewan; you’ll be so thankful that you didn’t.

Ewan The Dream Sheep doesn’t only have to be introduced at the early newborn stage. If your toddler is suddenly struggling to sleep or keeps creeping into your bed during the night, get them an Ewan. Ewan may give your child that little bit of extra comfort and security thanks to its glowing belly and relaxing sounds.

What Age Can Ollie the Owl Be Used Until?

Ollie The Owl can be used until your child no longer has a need for it anymore. Thanks to its high quality and design, Ollie will last for many years.

You can use Ollie The Owl as soon as your baby gets home from the hospital; however, be sure to strap it to your baby’s crib instead of placing it next to your baby in the crib. Newborns can’t push themselves away from objects and are at risk of suffocation.

Thanks to Ollie’s colorful and detailed design, it’ll help your baby’s mental and physical development. Your baby will try to reach out, touch, and stare at Ollie as they grow.

When your baby is old enough, they can sleep with Ollie and make it one of their favorite play toys. Who knows, maybe Ollie will be so loved by your child that you’ll find it on your child’s college dorm room bed in years to come!

What Are the Advantages of Ewan the Dream Sheep?

Routine

Introducing your baby to Ewan The Dream Sheep from an early age is the best as your baby will get used to it and form their sleeping pattern around it. Your baby will start to realize that once Ewan starts playing for them, it means it’s sleep time.

Color Options

It’s okay to want to match your baby’s toys, products, and bedding with their room. With Ewan The Dream Sheep, you have the options of purple and grey to work with. The grey Ewan is the most popular as it’s a neutral color and fits in perfectly with most baby rooms.

Portable and Durable

Whether your baby pulls and tugs at Ewan’s velcro tail, or it gets swung around in the car, you don’t need to worry about it! Ewan’s velcro tail is strong and can withstand curious hands. The velcro tail makes Ewan portable and can easily be strapped onto almost any bar or handle.

What Are the Disadvantages of Ewan the Dream Sheep?

Not Machine Washable

Not washing Ewan The Dream Sheep in the washing machine is a disadvantage because I only want the cleanest products around my baby. Ewan isn’t machine washable due to its battery pack that cannot come out.

Another frustrating point is that Ewan The Dream Sheep cannot use rechargeable batteries and, therefore, you have to buy new ones fairly frequently. It adds up and is quite a nuisance.

What Are the Advantages of Ollie the Owl?

Adjustable

Ollie The Owl is user-friendly. It’s easy to use, and you’re able to control the volume and brightness, making it suitable for both you and your baby. You can choose from low, medium, and high volumes depending on your baby’s sleeping preferences.

CrySensor

The CrySensor is a big advantage of Ollie and puts it above Ewan The Dream Sheep. The CrySensor listens to your baby and will play sounds if your baby stirs or wakes up, giving you a little less to worry about.

Safe

Ollie has been created with safety in mind. You have to unscrew the battery pack to get to the batteries, and they’re tucked inside of Ollie, making it impossible for your baby to open. In addition, it doesn’t have any other tiny, removable parts that your baby can take off.

What Are the Disadvantages of Ollie the Owl?

Not Machine Washable

You cannot wash Ollie in your washing machine because of the battery pack secured inside. To clean Ollie, you can only use a damp cloth. Unfortunately, Ollie is a device that needs to be touched frequently to work. Not being able to thoroughly wash it is a big concern.

No Color Options

If you’re not the biggest fan of the look of Ollie, it may not be the sleep aid for you as there are no other colors available. You don’t have the option to match it to the color theme of your child’s bedroom, but it all comes down to your preferences.

Ewan the Dream Sheep vs. Ollie the Owl – Which Is Better?

Ollie The Owl is a better sleep aid, mainly because it has the CrySensor feature, uses rechargeable batteries, is more user-friendly, and is a safer product for your baby to be around.

Ewan The Dream Sheep is also an excellent sleep aid; however, it doesn’t match Ollie The Owl when comparing all the different features.
